UK Offshore Payroll

Tax and social insurance regulations in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man are not the same as those on the UK mainland. That means additional payroll complexities for organisations with UK offshore employees. Complex 'work-arounds' are often necessary when attempting to handle offshore employees using a payroll solution designed for the mainland.

EPI-USE SAP Payroll solutions for Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man remove the need for such work-arounds, making the offshore payroll process straightforward and dependable. Indeed, the solution is so effective that it is SAP UK's recommended payroll solution for the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

How the solution works

Developed in cooperation with SAP UK, EPI-USE SAP Payroll solutions for Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are fully legally compliant. They provide all necessary statutory reporting, including Jersey's new Tax and Social Insurance returns.

Supporting SAP versions 4.7 and above, the solutions are based on SAP's MOLGA country groupings. This delivers a number of key advantages, including:

  • Separate name-ranges for the payroll drivers, follow-up programme and menus. Programmes can be maintained individually. No UK Payroll 'repairs' are required to process offshore payrolls.
  • Separate payroll clusters provide country-specific Tax and Social Insurance tables and clear separation of payroll results for each country.
  • Conflict between UK and offshore country configurations is reduced.
  • Separate legal and tax regimes for each island allow for the divergent evolution of UK and offshore tax and social insurance requirements, facilitating the effective maintenance of offshore payrolls.

The payroll drivers cover:

  • Tax provisions, social insurance, pension funds and other legal payroll information types.
  • Wage types - technical wage types and model wage types.
  • Payroll for salaries, wages and retroactive calculations.
  • The ability to make employee payments in any currency against payroll runs in a single currency.

The solution is template based, delivering an operational and approved payroll driver with reduced implementation time and risk.

For example, the statutory and legal requirements specifications document, which holds government tax legislation and social insurance information, is used as an accelerator in the blueprint process. Similarly, we provide a default payslip which can be edited to create customer-specific payslips.

The solution is based on standard SAP methodologies and standards, reducing future maintenance efforts. No bespoke development is necessary, further reducing implementation time. Full integration with the SAP Finance System removes any need for bespoke update programmes.
